Disney’s Star Wars Weekends begins! Themed food and an Indy bar on the way!

Those of you keen on the Disney side of things are all too familiar with the yearly Star Wars event, Star Wars Weekends. If you’re unfamiliar, the event takes plays at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, each summer. SWW features celebrities from the films, people decked out in full-character wardrobe, special shows, presentations, autographs and anything else you might be able to shake a Wookiee at. The trek out to Hollywood Studios is worth it just for the new Star Tours ride alone, but for now, let’s talk a little bit about food.

New to this year’s festivities will be the Rebel Hangar: A Star Wars Lounge Experience. There you’ll be able to taste themed foods, such as spicy pork wings topped with piquillo pepper sauce, a slider sampler featuring barbecue-braised brisket with coleslaw and barbecued pulled chicken with arugula, hummus with red pepper coulis, black sesame dust and corn tortilla chips, and a key lime cake.

The above eatery will just be a pop-up location and not a permanent establishment. However, they have something more permanent in mind that should excite you Indiana Jones fans. Disney has just announced that they are in the process of creating Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar. Residing at Downtown Disney, the Indiana Jones-themed venue will feature unique cocktails – such as the ‘Hovito Mojito’ with Barsol Quebranta Pisco, fresh lime juice and simple syrup – and small plates such as ‘Air Pirates Everything Pretzels’ with house-made mustard and beer cheese fondue. Every prop, food item and drink is being carefully constructed to fit within the Indiana Jones storyline.

Being a resident of Florida, I’m more than willing to try out all of the above, but am admittedly much more excited about Jock’s Hangar Bar. Downtown Disney has a decent line-up of bars, but something with an Indy twist absolutely makes the trip over there worthwhile. Also, if that place does not have chilled monkey brains, then they have failed me. While they’re at it, where’s our Star Wars-only theme park already?

Star Wars Weekends will take place every weekend starting today, May 15th, through June 14th, with the Indiana Jones-themed bar opening sometime this Fall.
