It’s no secret that there’s a flick heading our way based on the popular video game DEAD SPACE. We already knew this. Actually we’ve known this since last year. Well guess what folks… we’ve finally got an update on the project! It only took a year…

The update comes from the guys over at MTV, who recently sat down with DEAD SPACE director D.J. Caruso. The topic of interest quickly changed to the DEAD SPACE film and Caruso was kind enough to spill some details on the project:

“We’ve got a really good sort of storyline. It’s almost a prequel, sort of, to where the game picks up. …… We don’t have a writer for it yet, but… right before I left we were listening to different writers and taking different pitches. We have to decide on a couple once we get back what we’re going to do. We’ve tried to crack the story a few different ways, so I know when we get back we’re going to get into it and I feel like we’ll have a screenplay in a few months. It’ll hopefully be ready to go.”

A prequel? Alright that works. But they don’t even have a writer yet? Bummer. I don’t know about you guys but I’m all for seeing a DEAD SPACE flick so I can’t wait to see this one get going. Unfortunately it seems we might be a ways away from seeing that. Caruso actually had a lot more to say about DEAD SPACE so for the whole interview you’ll want to head over to MTV.

DEAD SPACE centers on an engineer who responds to a distress signal from a mining ship in deep space who finds the vessel infested with monstrous creatures called Necromorphs. The creatures are human corpses, reanimated by an alien virus.

Sounds deliciously twisted to me! Hopefully this thing scores a writer very soon! As always as soon as we hear more on DEAD SPACE we’ll be sure to pass the word along to all of you!
