Depending on who you ask, actor Dominic Monaghan is probably either best known for playing the Hobbit named Merry or as troubled musician Charlie Pace on the television series Lost. To me, he's Charlie, and while I tended to hate that character I do like Monaghan as an actor – especially after seeing him in last year's PET, which was a passion project he was attached to for nearly a decade.

Monaghan will next be seen in an intriguing sci-fi thriller called ATOMICA, and an announcement sharing the release details for the Syfy Films project was accompanied by the picture seen above, which shows Monaghan in character.

Directed by Dagen Merrill from a screenplay by Kevin Burke, Adam Gyngell, and Federico Fernandez-Armesto, ATOMICA has the following synopsis:

When communications go offline at a remote nuclear power plant isolated in the desert, a young safety inspector, Abby Dixon, is forced to fly out to bring them back online. Once inside the facility, mysterious clues and strange behavior cause Abby to have doubts about the sanity and, perhaps, identities of the two employees onsite.

Monaghan is joined in the cast by Tom Sizemore and Sarah Habel.

Jaime Burke and Vahan Paretchan produced the film, with Monaghan serving as an executive producer alongside Simon Chen, Kieth Merrill, Shawn Sackman, and Barry G. Walker.

ATOMICA is set to be released into theatres on March 17, 2017, with a VOD and Digital HD release to follow on March 21st.
