The Gotham TV show casting wheel continues to spin!

Donal Logue (Terriers, Sons of Anarchy) has been cast as Detective Harvey Bullock, the portly curmudgeon that populates the Batman mythos, most notably in the '90's Batman: The Animated Series. Logue joins the already cast Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon and the other recent additions of Sean Pertwee as Alfred and Robert Lord Taylor as The Penguin. There have been a few iterations of the character in the DCU, but he is generally portrayed the same; unlikable, slovenly, and a general pain in the ass. He has strong ties to Jim Gordon, who he has both partnered with and sabotaged throughout his run in comics and TV. For Gotham, Bullock is described as such:

Jim Gordon's "rough-around-the-edges" partner and mentor, who "plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results… and he does it with old-school, forceful panache."

It sounds like a faithful rendition of Bullock's character overall, but it's hard to say just how much of an asshole he'll be as compared to other iterations. He was an annoying buffoon in Batman: TAS and was embodied in the '89 BATMAN as Lt. Eckhardt (William Hootkins) and again in BATMAN BEGINS as Detective Flass (Mark Boone Junior), but this will be the first live-action version of the character with the original name. Logue is a solid fit for the role and is one of the most criminally underrated actors working today. He was spectacular in the last two seasons of Sons of Anarchy, so I'm looking forward to seeing him getting some more high-profile gigs.

Gotham is set to go into production this March with an eye toward a fall debut.
