A couple months ago the Guillermo del Toro produced DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK came and went from theaters without so much as a whimper. Sure some people dug the thing… but as a whole it failed to make any real noise. Then a flick like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 goes and break records. I don’t understand it either.
There’s a good chance you missed out on DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK during it’s theatrical run so here I am today to bring you all some awesome news – You won’t have to wait long to check this shite out on DVD and Blu-Ray! According to High Def Digest the genre remake will be hitting DVD and Blu-Ray via Sony on January 3rd. A perfect way to kick off the new year if you ask me!
DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK follows Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child, who has just arrived in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes) at the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the sprawling estate, the young girl discovers a hidden basement, undisturbed since the strange disappearance of the mansion’s builder a century ago. When Sally unwittingly lets loose a race of ancient, dark-dwelling creatures who conspire to drag her down into the mysterious house’s bottomless depths, she must convince Alex and Kim that it’s not a fantasy—before the evil lurking in the dark consumes them all.
While a full specs list hasn’t been released yet we do know the Blu-Ray will include 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include The Story, Blackwood’s Mansion, and The Creatures featurettes. So there’s that.
As soon as we score some more spec details, or perhaps a look at the cover art, we’ll be back to pass that shite right along to all of you.
