We previously reported that CABIN IN THE WOODS director Drew Goddard would be writing and showrunning the Netflix DAREDEVIL series, but now Marvel.com is reporting that Goddard will also direct the pilot. Goddard has only directed CABIN IN THE WOODS to date and has worked extensively as a screenwriter on the movies WORLD WAR Z, CLOVERFIELD, and ROBOPOCALYPSE along with television work on LOST, ALIAS, BUFFY, and more.

Goddard’s close association with J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon should instill confidence in the DAREDEVIL series along with his already professed love of the character.

“You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up. Even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, ‘I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.’ That was what I loved and so it’s the sort of thing that if we can find the right project, I would love to do it.”

The thirteen episode series is expected to debut in 2014 and could eventually lead to the character getting another chance at a movie if all goes according to plan. What is unknown is whether Goddard will be taking a stripped down approach to telling the origin of DAREDEVIL or if this will drop us right into the action. Many have been clamoring for a gritty, darker DAREDEVIL and a television series such as this could be the perfect avenue to test it. Hopefully we find out more soon.
