The Boys of Summer are Back!
Get ready for a nostalgia overload! The cast of the beloved 90s movie The Sandlot (which was a nostalgic tale of the 60s) is reuniting on the baseball diamond for Dugout Dads. However, they will all be playing completely new characters in the new comedy series. Not to worry though, there looks to be a ton of winking and nudging throughout. The trailer for the new series has just been released and, to start things off, it comes from Hambino Media — which is a play on The Sandlot‘s Hamilton Porter. Patrick Renna, who played Ham, and his producing partner Kyle Howard bring us this new project through their company.

Renna leads the new series with appearances across the season by Tom Guiry, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Quintin Adams, Victor DiMattia, Shane Obedzinski, Grant Gelt, and Will Horneff. If that’s not enough 90s nostalgia, Boy Meets World‘s Danielle Fishel is also in the cast as Renna’s wife.
The plot per Deadline reads,
“In Dugout Dads, when an idealistic dad (Renna) volunteers to coach his kids’ Little League team, he discovers that the most unruly players on the field aren’t the ten-year-olds… they’re the other coaches, parents, and sometimes himself. Throughout the season, Coach Patrick finds himself constantly at odds with his own advice to the kids: baseball is supposed to be FUN.”
As time marched on, the boys are now fathers and coaches of their kids’ little league teams. Renna stated, “After years of coaching Little League, I’ve witnessed some truly epic meltdowns on the field, and it’s always the adults (I’d be lying if I said it was never me). I just knew those experiences had to become a show. What makes it even more special is that it’s bringing me back together with the cast of The Sandlot — guys I’ve shared a unique bond and brotherhood with for more than 30 years. It feels like a story I was meant to tell, with exactly the right people to tell it with.”
The show is written by Sebastian Jones (Friends) and Dan Kopelman (Malcolm in the Middle) and is directed by Victor Nelli Jr. In addition to Renna and Howard, Victoria Fradkin is also on board as a producer.
