Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company has developed a name for itself over the years: the house that remakes built. The king of the remakes would also work. Either way, when Dunes hit the scene a few years back with the successful TCM remake, they found a niche for themselves: remaking classic horror flicks for today’s teeny-bopper (though R rated) audience.
Variety is reporting today that Dunes has a new flick lined up, and… surprisingly enough, it’s not a remake! I guess after this past winter’s HITCHER flopped, they decided they needed to go a different direction… and we’re all thankful to them for it.
The new and original flick is called FIASCO HEIGHTS, and it goes a bit like this: [set] in a stylized “hyper-real” noir environment akin to that of “Sin City,” [HEIGHTS] centers on a notorious hitman who teams with a failed private eye in search of a missing woman and an invaluable briefcase. Sounds good to me! Though not horror, I think it’s the way Dunes needs to go… plus noir style hitmen always spell fun in my book.
Have no fear though, as Dunes is currently filming the horror heavy HORSEMEN with Dennis Quaid, as well as another remake on the horizon: Alfred Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS. Yes, that will be a sad day when production starts filming that one, but until then… at least we have two original flicks to look forward to. No director has been named for HEIGHTS yet, but as soon as we hear, you’ll be the first to know!
