Kirsten Dunst is going to leave the limelight of swinging across the Manhattan skyline on screen behind, and go for the sweat and tears that come with directing a film. Yup, you read that right, “Mary Jane” is going to make her directorial debut, and in our horror backyard no less. Dunst reportedly told Sci-Fi Wire that she plans on shooting a short supernatural thriller that will be a part of Glamour magazine’s “Reel Moments” series of short films by women, based on stories submitted in letters by the magazine’s readers. “They’re totally giving me carte blanche,” Dunst said. “I pick my letter. I write my script. I pick everyone I want to collaborate with; it’s great.”
Right now Dunst is writing the film herself and is planning on shooting in August. Her blonde pal Michelle Williams will star in the film that is a ghost story inspired by classic scary movies.
Apparently Dunst is no stranger to horror, as she says that she is a fan. “I’ve always [been a fan of] Roman Polanski and, you know, REPULSION with Catherine Deneuve and, like, ROSEMARY’S BABY, ” Dunst said in a news conference in Beverly Hills, Calif., last week. “I mean, those are my favorite movies. DON’T LOOK NOW . … THE NIGHT PORTER is one of my favorite movies. … We just don’t make movies like that any more.”
