Dutton Ranch premiere sets record for biggest launch on Paramount+

It’s typically a good bet that any series touched by Taylor Sheridan is going to be a big hit, and the recently released Yellowstone spinoff series, Dutton Ranch, is no exception. In fact, Dutton Ranch has set a ratings record for an original series premiere on Paramount+.

Dutton Ranch Premiere

The premiere of Dutton Ranch brought in 12.9 million views in its first seven days. This easily surpassed the debut of The Madison back in March, which hit 8 million views in its first ten days of release. At the time, that was the biggest debut for any of Sheridan’s shows.

Despite being a Yellowstone spinoff, Sheridan isn’t involved in Dutton Ranch beyond serving as an executive producer. Same with Marshals.

Dutton Ranch stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who reprise their roles from Yellowstone. The logline reads: “As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together – far from the ghosts of Yellowstone – they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire. In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul.

What We Thought

Although our own Alex Maidy preferred Dutton Ranch to Marshals, he still felt it lacked Taylor Sheridan’s distinctive touch.

As much as I appreciated revisiting the world of Yellowstone through the eyes of Beth and Rip, Dutton Ranch falls prey to the same issue as the Marshals,” he wrote. “Both series are developed from shared DNA, but neither series is what came before it. Both shows are in desperate need of Taylor Sheridan’s oversight, as he delivers his best work when he serves as the sole writer or director. Dutton Ranch may have some stronger episodes in the five entries I have yet to see, but this series does not have anything that jumps out to grab you in the same way that Tulsa King or Landman do… I want to like this series, but it is not quite there yet. Still, it is way better than the rote and formulaic Marshals.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.
