PARANORMAL ACTIVITY – December 29

The horror movie event of the year is making it’s way to DVD just a few days before the end of 2009. Whether the movie will continue to reign on the small screen remains to be seen, but one can’t deny the sheer awesomeness of a movie that costs $15K to make, and brings in more than $100M at the box office. It’s not quintessential filmmaking, but there’s enough truly scary parts to warrant the hype. But on video? Not sure if it’ll hold up…

The Goods:

  • Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround
  • Original theatrical version
  • Unrated version with a shocking alternate ending not seen in theaters

UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION – February 2

Is it possible that one of the most highly anticipated STD titles to date is stuck with one of the shittiest DVD covers of all time? Yes, apparently it is. As is the case with UNIVERSAL SOLDIER 3, reuniting JCVD and Dolph Lundgren for some serious Van Dammage and all around manly sci-fi action sequences. Who the f*ck doesn’t want to check this bitch out? However, this cover is bad enough to turn even those who are only mildly interested away. Hopefully there’s enough time before its release date to go back to the drawing board for something bigger and better…

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Commentary by the director John Hyams and actor Dolph Lundgren
  • Behind the Lines featurette

CABIN FEVER 2: SPRING FEVER – February 16

Color me stupid, but I’m oddly excited for the Ti West directed sequel to Eli Roth’s CABIN FEVER. I really dug the first film, and what can I say… a school bus full of potential victims screams ‘good times’ to me! Regardless of the ‘drama’ that went on behind the scenes, the cover is pretty dope, and as far as STD sequels go, this looks like it’s gonna be ‘all that’ and a bag of tricks. But will Pancakes return for a second go-round? I sure as f*ck hope so!

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Audio commentary with actors Mark Borchardt and Giuseppe Andrews
  • “Blood gag” reel
  • Special effects makeup featurette

    SORORITY ROW – January

I love this cover. Not because it’s a good cover, but because it’s so f*cking retarded that it’s not even funny… except, wait… it is funny! It’s hilarious! For two main reasons: 1) the quote on the box gives this p.o.s. 4 stars. Really? Then claims that it’s ‘Brilliant!’… are we talking about the same movie here? I have no problem with people who actually liked this garbage, but come on… even those who liked it couldn’t call the damn thing ‘brilliant,’ could they? And 2) the chicks on the far left and the far right of this line-up. Why? Because their f*cking hair is on fire! Flaming up a storm and they don’t seem to care, or even notice. I get that it’s the house behind them, but come on… looks like someone just set a match to their noggins! Covers don’t get any more awesome(ly bad) than this!

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Easter Egg Shower Rehearsal
  • Kill Switch
  • Killer 101
  • Outtakes
  • Stories From The Set
