Dwayne Johnson excitedly announces that Jumanji 3 is ‘officially underway’

After taking some time off to enjoy the monumental success of JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE ($961.9 million worldwide), Sony has announced that plans for a sequel are "officially underway." News of a third film in the Jumanji franchise arrived by way of Dwayne Johnson's Instagram account when the box office behemoth shared the following post:

As a professional who's all about having a "go big or go home" mentality, Johnson looks to be overjoyed by the idea of reprising the Jumanji avatar, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, alongside his friends and co-stars Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Nick Jonas, and of course, Kevin Hart. For the moment, Sony is eyeing a December 2019 release for the ensemble adventure, which according to Johnson himself, will boast a tremendous display of heart as its anchor.

Adding to the good news, Sony has also confirmed that JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg will return to pen the screenplay with Jake Kasdan once again in the director's chair. Matt Tolmach will produce alongside Johnson, though according to the wrestler-turned-Hollywood superstar, Kevin Hart's character will perish within the first 15 seconds of the film. We know better than to believe this last part is true, but damn, that would be hilarious.

For the moment, no details regarding the plot of Jumanji 3 have been revealed. It's also worth noting that Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black have yet to sign on the dotted line for the franchise's next foray, though I suspect that we'll have confirmation on that real soon.

Are you excited to return to the jungle with Johnson and the crew? Personally, JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE was one of my favorite films of 2017, and I can't wait to see what the scribes have cooked up for the sequel. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
