Looks like Dwayne Johnson is close to taking on his first comic book superhero role. Johnson was recently asked via Twitter if there was any truth to the rumors of his involvement in a LOBO movie, based on the DC comics character.

Johnson’s response was “rumors of me possibly playing LOBO are true. Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun.. ‪#RockTalk‬.”

LOBO has been in development for some time, going back to years ago when Guy Ritchie was involved. More recently, JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND director Brad Peyton was given the reins on the film. Both Johnson and Peyton have been discussing a third movie in the JOURNEY franchise set in outer space.

For those of you unfamiliar with Lobo, he is an alien bounty hunter who rides a motorcycle and has a smartass attitude. He was originally created in the 1980’s but had a resurgence in the nineties where was more of a spoof of The Punisher and Wolverine. In more recent years he has developed into his own character but retained the comic sensibility. He has had run ins with both Superman and Batman.

Peyton is not exactly the most exciting choice for what should be a pretty adult film. Aside from JOURNEY 2, Peyton also directed CATS AND DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE.

Dwayne Johnson certainly has the personality to take on Lobo, the question remains if this will be a watered down version of the character.
