Aaron Eckhart was in the biggest movie of the year and one of the biggest movies of all time and now he’s finally getting his due. Eckhart has signed on to his first lead role in a big-budget action flick, the Sony sci-fi project BATTLE: LOS ANGELES. Eckhart will play Sgt. Nantz, a Marine who’s sent in to kick some alien ass and take names. The film is basically the story of an alien invasion in Los Angeles because aliens are obviously going to invade LA first. Chris Bertolini wrote the script, which was originally described as CLOVERFIELD meets INDEPENDENCE DAY meets BLACK HAWK DOWN. Jonathan Liebesman (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2) will direct though no start date has been announced. Eckhart, who’s still trying to get the bad taste of THE CORE out of his mouth, can be seen next in the Jennifer Aniston drama TRAVELING.
