Eclipse director possibilities…

According to Variety, the search is on already for the director of TWILIGHT 3 aka ECLIPSE, and two of the choices might surprise you. The first is James Mangold (pictured), he who directed 3:10 to YUMA, the Johnny Cash bio WALK THE LINE, and the thriller IDENTITY. Now, if you ask me, Mangold is a little “above” doing a TWILIGHT sequel, but with the economy the way it is, going for a sure thing wouldn’t be a bad idea, even for a respectable director…

The other potential helmer is a little more intriguing: J.A. Bayona, who directed THE ORPHANAGE. Bayona certainly displayed a talent for creepy set-pieces and working with young actors. Whether or not these skills will be necessary when directing ECLIPSE remains to be seen, although I’m sure he’d add ample atmosphere to the tale.

Or perhaps Chris Weitz will end up directing both NEW MOON and ECLIPSE, making lots and lots o’ money in the process…

Finally, not sure if this means anything to any of you, but apparently the character of Leah Clearwater is not going to be in NEW MOON. Cause for concern? Shock? Yawning? I know which one I’m doing…
