Just this past May, my man Eric gave you all a look at the first poster for the down-and-dirty horror outing EDEN LAKE (above). It kind of reminds me of HIGH TENSION, which is never a bad thing. And now, thanks to Frightfest UK, we have some of the first stills from the flick. You’ll find one below and the rest here. It looks like some fun, menacing stuff! Take a whack at the plot:

Nursery teacher Jenny and her boyfriend Steve escape London for a romantic weekend away. Steve has found an idyllic lakeside beauty spot and plans to propose. But their peace is shattered when a gang of obnoxious kids encircles their campsite causing threatening havoc. When tempers flare and sudden violent attack occurs, the distressed couple must flee for their lives and endure a chilling game of cat-and-mouse.

Yeah, it does sound like it’s been done before, but a synopsis is only skin deep. The guts of this flick could be grotesquely grand. Plus, it is already being called “the most controversial and provocative British movie of the year.” There’s some big, blood-stained shoes to fill. I hope that EDEN is up for the challenge. It is off to a pretty good start with the up-and-coming James Watkins (who wrote GONE and THE DESCENT 2) as writer and director.

EDEN LAKE stars Kelly Reilly, Michael Fassbender, and Jack O’Connell. It will be premiering at Frightfest UK on August 21st and releasing in France on October 8th. There is no set US release date yet.
