Film editor Chris Lebenzon recently spoke to THR about two of his upcoming projects helmed by frequent collaborator Tim Burton. Lebenzon is currently in London storyboarding FRANKENWEENIE, a black-and-white, stop-motion 3D movie based on Burton’s 1984 short of the same name. Here’s what he had to say about the effort:
“It is a very sensitive movie, it speaks to a lot of our childhood fantasies. The theme is the same – the boy brings his dog back to life. In this one he gets the idea from a certain place, he has a lot of friends who do the same thing, they’re in a big contest. I think it has grown to be more of a feature world.”
In May, Lebenzon will begin working on DARK SHADOWS, Buron’s adaptation of the gothic soap opera from the ’60s. He said that Seth Grahame-Smith’s script is “terrific.” He added, “It’s a relationship movie. It’s a lot of interaction of characters, from past and present.”
FRANKENWEENIE features the voices of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Landau. It’s scheduled to be released on October 5, 2012 by Disney.
