Eli Roth’s The House With a Clock In Its Walls sets September 2018 release

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Back in the day, fantasy horror books were my jam! Okay, so maybe I still read them from time to time, but that's not why we're here. Today, Universal Pictures has announced that Amblin & Eli Roth's THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS is now set for a September 21, 2018 release.

Based on the John Bellairs children’s book of the same name, the film will tell the tale of a 10-year old boy named Lewis who goes to live with his uncle in a dilapidated old house that has an other-worldly tick-tocking heart. What Lewis first perceives as a listless town suddenly comes alive as a secret world filled with warlocks and witches is revealed. Wait, how did that happen? Well, it might have had something to do with Lewis accidently raiseing the undead. What? Like that's never happened to you? Before long, Lewis' only hope is to join his uncle in finding a magical clock before time runs out.

Roth's THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS stars Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Kyle MacLachlan Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams, Sunny Suljic and Owen Vaccaro as Lewis. Penning the script for the metaphysical fantasy adventure will be SUPERNATURAL's own Eric Kripke, who will also produce alongside Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer and James Vanderbilt.

While I've personally never read THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, I'm more than a little curious to see what Eli Roth makes of a haunted fantasy family adventure. With such a stellar cast signed onto the project, there's simply no telling how crazy things are going to get when the cameras start rolling. Here's hoping for some tried-and-true fantasy horror from a director who's dabbled in the art of terror on several successful ocassions.
