Attention all Vault Hunters, word has arrived along the acrid wind of the wasteland that Cate Blanchett is in talks to star as Lilith for Eli Roth's BORDERLANDS, an adaptation of the popular loot-shooter video game from Gearbox Software and 2K Games.

Eli Roth is directing with Avi and Ari Arad producing through Arad Productions along with Erik Feig, who is also producing via his Picturestart studio. When it comes to whipping up a wicked screenplay, that role falls to Craig Mazin, who previously won an Emmy for his work on CHERNOBYL. Mazin has written the latest draft of the BORDERLANDS screenplay, which I'd imagine includes plenty of pithy insults, references to forgotten pop culture icons, and more Claptrap one-liners than you could ever hope for.

For those of you who're unfamiliar with the Borderlands video game franchise, the madcap shooter filled with colorful characters, plenty of profanity, and more guns than The Punisher's tool shed, has sold over 57 million units worldwide, including 22 million units of Borderlands 2 – which in my opinion is still the best installment of the series. A third chapter of the franchise, Borderlands 3, was released in September 2019, and has already sold more than 8 million units worldwide.

While there are many characters featured throughout the Borderlands franchise, I'm proud to say that Lilith is among my favorites. As one of the main protagonists of the first Borderlands game, Lilith subscribes to the game's "Siren" class. Equipped with a silver tongue, attitude to match, and a longing to blow holes in the faces of every enemy she encounters, Lilith uses her superhuman powers to gain an edge on those who stand in her way.

If I'm being honest, I never would have pegged Blanchett for the role. This being the case, I dare say that this potential casting decision is giving me a sensation of hope for the Borderlands project that I never expected to feel. Is my optimism misguided? Only time will tell.

What do you all think of Cate Blanchett possibly stepping into the role of Lilith for Eli Roth's BORDERLANDS adaptation? Sound off in the comments section below.
