Move over Matthau and Lemmon, Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey are the new odd couple!
Word has broken today that Elijah will continue his torrid genre affair by starring in OPEN WINDOWS, Nacho Vigalondo’s English language debut. The techno-thriller is already filming, and will also star Sasha Grey (below) as the girlfriend and Neil Maskell as the heavy. Wild Bunch is handling all international sales.
The real time thriller unfolds on the screen of a laptop connected to the Internet with Wood playing a man who is trying to track down his actress girlfriend, who has been abducted by somebody named Chord.
To Screen Daily, Vigalondo beamed about the project:
“The action will be followed on the screen of a laptop connected to the Internet – an approach that has excited us all from the outset. Something like this means going beyond high concept films like Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield or Chronicle…instead of simulating a home video camera, we will be representing a computer desktop. The movie screen becomes a computer screen, and the spectator becomes the protagonist of this adventure.”
Interesting framing device, but then again, no shock with Vigalondo. Dude’s always messing with structure and narrative, this just looks like the next step. Even so, movies like BLOW UP and BLOW OUT have been likened to the picture, and if that proves true, OPEN WINDOWS has to be worth peeking at.
