Emily Blunt will join Dwayne Johnson for Disney’s Jungle Cruise

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Emily Blunt, who can be seen acting in Disney's 2014 musical INTO THE WOODS, and the upcoming MARY POPPINS RETURNS, doesn't look to be taking off her mouse ears anytime soon, as it's been announced that she will star alongside Dwayne Johnson in Disney's JUNGLE CRUISE.

Set to be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (THE SHALLOWS, ORPHAN), Disney is hoping that JUNGLE CRUISE will kick off a new multi-million dollar franchise for the studio, much like the now-worn PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN film series. For the new movie, Johnson will star as the captain of a vessel that takes guests on a comedy-laden guided tour through a world-famous river. Recently, Johnson and his team stated that the Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn classic, THE AFRICAN QUEEN, has served as an inspiration when looking to create the film's adventuresome and romantic setting.

LOGAN writer Michael Green has penned the most recent draft of the script, with plans to roll the project into production by May of this year.

All aboard the S.S. Moneymaker, ladies and gentlemen! As far as Disney attractions go, the House of Mouse has the potential to make boat-loads of money off of JUNGLE CRUISE. While I recall the ride as sort of a one-and-done experience, the mega-popular, on-rails expedition has been a major hit for Disney, since the first version of JUNGLE CRUISE opened in July of 1955 at Disneyland, California. There are now several versions of the ride stationed throughout the different Disney parks around the world.

While specific plot details are scarce at this time, I would imagine that Dwayne Johnson's JUNGLE CRUISE will find us all adventuring down the Amazon River, with danger lurking around every corner, no doubt. Please keep your hands and feet inside the boat at all times, and have fun!
