Emily Mortimer & Bella Heathcote haunted by dementia manifestation in Relic

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo aka the Russo Brothers have been riding high as two of the world's biggest directors after helming a couple CAPTAIN AMERICA flicks along with AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and the upcoming AVENGERS 4. And the men are taking their newfound powers and putting them towards producing a horror movie. Sounds like a plan to us!

The movie is called RELIC and it will mark the feature directing debut of Natalie Erika James. And today we have word via Deadline that the movie has scored its leads with Emily Mortimer (SHUTTER ISLAND, SCREAM 3), Robyn Nevin and Bella Heathcote (DARK SHADOWS, NEON DEMON).

Both Mortimer and especially Heathcote have earned the status of "much-watch actresses" in my book so I know I will personally be checking out this film ASAP. Add to the fact that the film's quick synopsis below makes mention of the actresses being "haunted by a manifestation of aged dementia" and I'm super intrigued. Bring on the trailer!

James and Christian White wrote the film's screenplay, which centers on

Three generations of women – daughter, mother, and grandmother – haunted by a manifestation of aged dementia that takes over their family home.

The plot was inspired by James’ experience with Alzheimer’s disease within her own family. Director Natalie Erika James:

At its core, it explores the fear and heartbreak of dementia and ageing through a horror lens.

Executive producers Mike Larocca:

Relic’s allegorical view of dementia spoke to us in a profoundly emotional way and represents the very best of what the genre has to offer. Natalie is the exact filmmaker that AGBO serves to bolster and we’re proud to support her and help bring her powerful film to life.

Larocca executive produces along with the Russo Brothers and the movie is produced by Anna McLeish, Sarah Shaw, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Riva Marker. Production begins next week in Victoria, Australia. Does RELIC sound interesting to you? Make sure to hit us up and let us know!
