Escape away from Wiseman?

UPDATE! This has just been CONFIRMED by IESB… And here I was hoping that I had just tossed up a ridiculous rumor that would get me laughed off the site…

The majority of peeps around here were most likely non-too-thrilled with the idea of remaking ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, as the prospect of yet another beloved Carpenter film winding up in the remake-o-matic was just too much to bear. Things didn’t really improve with the news that Len Wiseman would be calling the shots, as the guy just seems too razzle-dazzle for a flick that needs a clever and gritty touch. (I still submit Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.)

Most prayed for a change, an upgrade, and when I first read that there was the possibility of a change in leadership, my heart sang… and then quickly sank.

It’s just a rumor – one of the most soul-trampling variety – but I’ve read crazier ones before… Brett motherf*ckin’ Ratner.

It’s as if a million souls just cried out at once…

AICN is the outlet reporting this news, and I recall a few years back when they also dished out the cruddy rumor that Ratner would be taking over duties on the X-MEN franchise, a lot of people called bullshite… until of course it turned out to be true. Also remember that New Line is the studio behind ESCAPE – and the Rat has backed in truckloads of cash for them with his insipid RUSH HOUR movies… Wiseman had concurrently been attached to the GEARS OF WAR movie.

So we’ll wait and see people, but this already-tainted project may have gotten a helluva lot smellier.

Wiseman’s got it too good anyway…
