The long road to season 3
Euphoria is a show where the whole cast seemingly became bigger than the series. With Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Colman Domingo becoming the new big wave of movie stars in the last few years, the controversial HBO series would take some time getting to its third season. So much so, that creator and writer Sam Levinson gave season 3 a time jump after the high school years. Levinson said that the third season is all about “being out of the safety net of school.” The writer/director/executive producer stated, “Five years felt like a natural place [to jump] because if they had gone to college, they’d be out of college at that time.”
Season 3 becomes the Final
Deadline is reporting that both HBO and Sam Levinson have confirmed that season 3 of Euphoria, which had recently aired its finale, is the close of the series. Levinson recently gave an interview with the New York Times, where he explained,
In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me.”sponsored content
The season finale would also serve as a series finale.

Levinson talks about the story elements from the end of the story that may be sensitive for some fans of the show. The last two episodes saw the brutal death of Jacob Elordi’s character and the series would end with Zendaya‘s Rue overdosing on fentanyl, which mirrors the real-life passing of cast member Angus Cloud during the writing of Season 3. Levinson explained writing this ending in tribute to the actor. He stated, “It was a way of honoring Angus and saying a prayer for the future.”
Even though season 3 is now confirmed to be it for the show, there were ideas kicked around for a possible fourth season. HBO’s Casey Bloy said earlier this year, “In terms of what he wants to do next, we will have a conversation about what he’s thinking. But right now, he’s focused on finishing three and getting it out.”
