Eva Green & Gemma Arterton will romance one another in Vita & Virginia

It’s been confirmed this morning that both the astonishingly talented actors Eva Green and Gemma Arterton will star together in VITA & VIRGINIA for Protagonist Pictures. Directed by Chayna Button, the film will explore the true life relationship and love affair concerning the literary icon Virginia Woolf and author Vita Sackville-West. Eileen Atkins will provide the script which is based on her own play of the same name which had made its debut back in 1992.

In commenting about the upcoming project, Button had this to say about bringing this story of passion and creativity to the big screen,

Focusing on the time in 1927-8 during which Woolf wrote ‘Orlando,’ the novel their relationship inspired, ‘Vita & Virginia’ will be a visceral love story, a vivid exploration of creativity, and an energized perspective on one of our most iconic writers.

We so often associate women of the past with oppression, bound by the duties of marriage, propriety and domesticity; but what ‘Vita & Virginia’ offers is an example of a relationship where bold, brilliant women bent these institutions to their will at great personal cost.

Adding his voice to the excitement of creating the film, Protagonist CEO Mike Goodrich exclaimed,

We just love this witty and evocative screenplay by Eileen Atkins and Chanya Button. This is a playful and sexual Virginia Woolf, far removed from the gloom often associated with her, and Vita Sackville-West is a vivacious and flamboyant character who dominates high society in London in the 1920s.

I’ll be honest with you, I’m a big fan of both Eva Green as well as Gemma Arterton. I’ll see just about anything starring these two lovely ladies. Plus, Virginia Woolf certainly is an interesting figure in the literary world, and I wouldn’t mind the opportunity to learn some more about her through the guise of a romantic cinematic time piece.

There is no date regarding the release of VITA & VIRGINIA just yet, though be sure to check out Eva Green when she next appears in Roman Polanski’s BASED ON A TRUE STORY later this year. Meanwhile, you can hear the dulcet tones of Gemma Arterton when she voices the character of Clover in the upcoming TV-mini-series re-imagining of WATERSHIP DOWN.
