Evil Dead II: Adam Savage unearths the cabin miniature model

Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead film trilogy (consisting of The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness) is packed with incredible practical effects, including some shots where the cabin location from the first two films was recreated in miniature form. A miniature version of the cabin that was used during the filming of Evil Dead II was recently unearthed by the folks at PropStore.com, and they called special effects designer Adam Savage, best known as co-host of the TV series MythBusters, to come check it out. The result of Savage’s visit to the Pop Store is the YouTube video embedded below.

In this video, Savage gives the miniature Evil Dead II cabin a thorough examination, and it’s very cool to see that this piece of horror history – a small version of one of the genre’s most iconic locations – is still in such good condition.

You can watch Evil Dead II at THIS LINK and keep an eye out for the miniature.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Spiegel, the film has the following, slightly inaccurate synopsis:

Ash, the sole survivor of The Evil Dead returns to the same isolated cabin deep in the woods with his girlfriend. The two discover a mysterious tape recorder and hear the voice of Professor Knowby reciting passages from the Necronomicon, or Book of the Dead. Little do they know that the professor’s words are powerful enough to evoke a spell that unleashes the spirit of evil alive in the remote forest surrounding them.

Watch in terror as the plot sickens and the supernatural demons invade the cabin on a gory crusade for human victims. In desperation, Ash attempts to escape his horrific fate by battling with the gruesome ghouls with the help of some unexpected visitors. However, he discovers that he is no match for the unspeakable creatures lurking behind every door, and waiting beyond every corner.

Bruce Campbell plays our hero Ash and is joined in the cast by Sarah Berry, Danny Hicks, Kassie Wesley, Denise Bixler, Richard Domeier, John Peaks, Lou Hancock, and Ted Raimi.
