Ex. Andy Serkis on Reeves’ Batman & the fates of Snoke, Klaue & Caesar

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Recently, I had a chat with Andy Serkis about his upcoming film MOWGLI (more on that later) and had the chance to ask a few questions that were burning in the minds of his fans (myself included) and he gave some exciting and mysterious answers. I was curious to know how he felt about so many of his signature characters being killed off in the last year and raised an eyebrow at his sneaky answer to Snoke, which could mean anything, but certainly hints that we may not have seen the last of him. Serkis also responds to the new Amazon version of Lord of the Rings and whether or not he'd be interested in being a part of either Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN or any DC property. Check out the responses below.

We've seen three of your signature characters, Caesar, Ulysses Klaue and Snoke, get killed onscreen over the course of the last year. What's it like for you to say goodbye to these characters that you've inhabited multiple times?

"I mean, look, Caesar really was like ripping my heart out when he died. All the way through his life I played him, you know, from infancy through to sweet goodnight. So, that one was hard to say goodbye, it really was, over the course of three movies. And, Ulysses Klaue, I was having such a good time playing him. I was very sad to say goodbye to him, too. And Snoke…well, who knows about Snoke? Who knows? [laughs]"

You worked with Matt Reeves on quite a few of those films and I'm curious-he's working on THE BATMAN next for WB, is there any interest for you in being a part of that or venturing into the DC universe at all?

"Oh, for sure! I mean, I'd go to the edge of the created universe with Matt [Reeves]. I mean, he's the most brilliant director. I would work with anything with him again, y'know, I mean, I absolutely adore him and we're very good friends, close friends, and I think he's an extraordinary director so for sure."

Amazon is preparing to restart the Lord of the Rings in a very massive effort. Is that something you'd ever want to return to or have you said your piece on that?

"I feel like I've spent, you know…I've spent a great deal of my life in Middle-Earth and I've had a lovely time there, but there are other places to go on holiday, yeah."

Serkis will next be seen (in mo-cap, of course, as well as behind the camera) in MOWGLI, which hits theaters on October 19th, 2018.
