Some of the magic behind DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES includes the nuances behind the apes themselves. Choreographer Terry Notary sure knows a bunch about creating animal movement and bringing these simian characters to life. With movement, personality and ultimately the actor’s performance, he is able to bring this world closer to reality and he does an incredible job.

At the recent junket for the film at Crissy Field in San Francisco, he gave a demonstration on just how to be an ape. When we talked about the performance process he discussed shaping the character. And best of all, I get a couple of moments to try and “tap into my animal” and it was awesome – of course I may need a little practice. Check out Mr. Notary’s fantastic work this Friday when DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES hits a theatre near you.
