Robert Stromberg has had an impressive career to say the very least. The winner of two Academy Awards for best Achievement in Art Direction – ALICE IN WONDERLAND and AVATAR – he takes his impressive experience and helps reinvent the legend of SLEEPING BEAUTY. In his feature film debut, Stromberg gives us MALEFICENT, a modern take on the evil queen who cursed an innocent princess to sleep for eternity. In doing so he has created a dreamy and provocative re-telling of an old fable.

It’s always exciting to talk to a filmmaker about their work. Yet it is even better when they happen to be a fan of the site. Thankfully, Mr. Stromberg had mentioned to me that he regularly visited us here at JoBlo.com. And I’m happy to say that I am more than a little bit of a fan of his. The talented filmmaker discussed MALEFICENT as well as the design of the creatures and so much more. It was an absolute pleasure speaking to Robert and if you’d like to see what magic he has in store, make sure you check out his latest this Friday at a theatre near you.
