A Ghost Story David Lowery

Released on Blu-ray and DVD today is director David Lowery's "haunting drama" A GHOST STORY, an interesting looking film that I haven't had a chance to check out for myself yet. Now that it's on home video, I will be watching it as soon as possible.

The film reunites Lowery with his AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara to tell the following story:

Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost (Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence.

As that synopsis gives away, the ghost in this wears a white sheet with holes cut out for the eyes, the ghost costume that children have been wearing on Halloween for a long, long time. Today we have an EXCLUSIVE "making of" featurette that focuses on that sheet costume and reveals that bringing this idea to the screen wasn't as simple as just throwing a sheet over Affleck. It's interesting to hear about the unexpected challenges of trying to make a sheet-ghost look good on camera.

Special features on A GHOST STORY's home video release include:

Audio commentary with director David Lowery, cinematographer Andrew Droz Palermo, production designer Jade Healy, and composer Daniel Hart

A Ghost Story and the Inevitable Passing of Time featurette

A Composer’s Story featurette
