With Arthurian stories making quite the comeback in recent years, it should come as no surprise that Oscar nominee and LION actor Dev Patel is in talks to star in GREEN KNIGHT, a fantasy epic retelling of the medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight for A24. Set to direct the 14th-century Middle English chivalric romance is A GHOST STORY helmer David Lowrey, who is also set to produce alongside Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston via their Sailor Bear studio. Tim Headington and Theresa Steele Page of Ley Line Entertainment will also produce.

Hailed as one of the most beloved Arthurian legends of all time, the story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tells of a knight belonging to King Arthur's Round Table, who accepts the challenge of beheading the Green Knight, a figure that's graced the poems and pages of medieval art, Celtic mythology, and Christianity. In some cases, the Green Knight has even been depicted as the Devil himself, riding atop a steed while holding his severed head aloft for all to fear. In the tale of old, Sir Gawain must "wait a year and a day to receive a blow in return." (via Deadline) Once all is revealed, it turns out that the task was nothing more than a test to measure Sir Gawain's loyalty to hs king.

Up next for Patel is a role as David Copperfield in director Armando Iannucci's (THE DEATH OF STALIN) THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF DAVID COPPEFIELD. Based on the novel by Charles Dickens, the film will have Patel starring opposite GAME OF THRONES and STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI alumna Gwendoline Christie, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Benedict Wong and Peter Capaldi. The project is now in post-production and is expected for a 2019 release.
