Exclusive Pics: My Soul to Keep director brings Transformers into our world!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

MY SOUL TO KEEP director Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad like to takes pictures of himself with Transformers, which is good since his world is crawling with Transformers. The guy can't even take his dog out for a walk without some kind of giant mechanical being crashing the party.

Okay, so these are actually Masterpiece Transformer toys that he shoots and edits to make them look like they're living Transformers making their way around in our world, but he does an awesome job of putting the images together, so we're happy to have the opportunity to share an EXCLUSIVE batch of Ahmad's Transformers pictures.

Here's what Ahmad had to say about the images:

Since I was a kid, I've loved Transformers and always wanted to see these guys on the big screen. A few years back I got a couple of the Masterpiece Transformers and realized these things were truly works of art that could pass for the real thing if you lit them right. I tested the theory one day by shooting Optimus Prime standing behind my car. I shot the separate images with a Sony A7 camera and Zeiss 18mm Batis lens, then used Lightroom and Photoshop to develop and composite the images together. I was astonished at how well the figure held up when scaled and composited with a real life background plate. Soon I was taking more and more of these and started getting more intricate. The interesting part is that some turn out better than others and almost feel like the Transformer is right there in the scene. Some good color matching and a nice shadow help to complete the illusion. Overall, I've learned that certain figures (similar to people) are more photogenic than others. For instance, the Optimus Prime figure I started out with seems to be a real pro as well as his arch nemesis Megatron. Both pop off the screen and have a more lifelike quality to them than even some other more expensive or intricate figures. I think a lot has to do with the paint used and whether the figure has real world detail as opposed to cartoon acurate decos. Either way, it's a fun way to keep my photography and photoshop skills sharp while working on my other film projects. I would love to one day build these guys life size and shoot them in motion… that would be a dream come true."

The Transformers aren't the only cool thing going on in these pictures, either. You might notice a black car in some of the shots, and that is the Firebreather, a vehicle Ahmad designed himself. It's "basically his version of the ultimate Trans Am."
