If the original Fall left your palms sweaty, the newly released trailer for Fall 2: Deadpoint suggests the sequel is determined to make your fear of heights even worse. Lionsgate has unveiled a new trailer for the survival thriller ahead of its September 2 theatrical release, offering an extended look at another white-knuckle fight for survival, this time on a wooden plank suspended 3,000 feet above the ground, in the mountains of Thailand.
What Is Fall 2: Deadpoint About?
Fall 2 stars Harriet Slater (Outlander: Blood of My Blood), Arsema Thomas (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story), and Tom Brittney (Grantchester). The official synopsis reads:
Overwhelmed by her sister Hunter’s death, Jax (Slater) connects with Luce (Thomas), Hunter’s fearless friend. To heal, they attempt the infamous plank walk of Mount Kwan in Thailand. After a sudden rockslide leaves them stranded on a fragile plank 3000 feet in the air, Jax must confront her deepest fears and fight for survival to find closure.
The Sequel Brings New Directors to the Franchise
While original Fall writer and director Scott Mann remains heavily involved as co-writer and producer, directing duties have been handed over to Michael and Peter Spierig, the filmmaking duo behind Daybreakers, Predestination, Jigsaw, and Winchester.
When the Spierigs signed on, Mann provided the following statement: “I am so proud to hand over the reins to the Spierigs, two highly respected genre directors whose addition will undoubtedly make this follow-up even more of a must-see experience than we already knew it would be. I can’t wait for Flawless to work alongside them, and the rest of our fantastic filmmaking team, to take the Fall franchise to epic new heights.“
The screenplay was written by Scott Mann and Jonathan Frank.
Can Fall Become a Franchise?
Released in 2022, Fall became a surprise success thanks to its simple premise and sustained suspense. Despite its modest budget, the film found an audience through positive word of mouth and established itself as one of the most anxiety-inducing survival thrillers in recent years. Capstone Studios was confident enough in the property’s future to greenlight two sequels, making Deadpoint the first step toward turning Fall into a full-fledged franchise.
Capstone Studios’ CEO Christian Mercuri is producing the Fall sequels with Mark Lane and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions, David Haring, and Scott Mann via the Flawless banner. Dan Asma, John Long, and Roman Viaris serve as executive producers with Capstone’s Ruzanna Kegeyan. Capstone is providing the financing.
