Amazon’s Fallout TV series is still moving forward, says Todd Howard

Fallout, TV series, Amaon

It’s been over a year since Amazon Studios announced that they were developing a TV series based on Bethesda’s Fallout videogame series. We haven’t heard all that much about the Fallout TV series since then, but it is apparently still in the works.

During a Reddit AMA, Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard was asked about the status of the Fallout TV series.

Moving ahead. Really excited to be working with Jonah, Lisa, and Amazon on it.

The Fallout TV series is being developed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, creators of HBO’s Westworld. “Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time,” said Nolan and Joy last year. “Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.

Fallout is a post-apocalyptic role-playing videogame series heavily influenced by 1950s post-war culture. Much of the franchise takes place hundreds of years after a great war over resources decimated the planet. The U.S. government set up a series of self-sufficient fallout shelters known as Vaults, but there wasn’t enough room for everyone and those who survived the nuclear fallout have become horribly mutated. “Fallout is an iconic global franchise, with legions of fans worldwide and a rich, deeply compelling storyline that powers it. And Jonah and Lisa are the perfect storytellers to bring this series to life,” Albert Cheng, COO and Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios, said. “We’re thrilled to join with Bethesda to bring Fallout to television.

While Amazon has plenty of big shows on the way, notably their Lord of the Rings series, it’s nice to know that they haven’t forgotten about the Fallout TV series.
