Fantastic Four: Emily Blunt shoots down casting rumors

Emily Blunt is responding to long-gestating Fantastic Four casting rumors and her response may not be to the liking of many fans that have been fan-casting Blunt and her husband John Krasinski as Sue Storm and Reed Richards. Both performers have been linked to the MCU in the past (Krasinski screen-tested for the role of Captain America and Blunt was once attached as Black Widow in Iron man 2) but it appears that rumors of them joining the MCU as the first family of Marvel are only rumors because Blunt is giving a response to the speculation that has a sense of finality to it.

During an appearance on "The Howard Stern Show", Blunt responded to the long-standing Fantastic Four casting rumors and she dispelled them all by saying it was merely all fan-casting. She was then asked if the genre was beneath her and even though she doesn't go as far as to say that, she did seem to express that superhero movies just aren't her thing:

"That is fan-casting. No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’ … It’s not that it’s beneath me. I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow I was obsessed with Iron Man. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr.—it would’ve been amazing … but I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t."

While Blunt seems to make it clear that she wasn't interested in playing a superhero, she did add that "It's not to say that I'd never want to play one." That comment alone might leave some hope for fans that she will somehow change her mind about considering the upcoming MCU Fantastic Four movie, which is set to be directed by Jon Watts. Blunt goes on to say that it would have to be a "really cool character" for her to be interested so maybe if that Fantastic Four script makes Sue Storm a force to be reckoned with, she may reconsider.

Now that Blunt has put these rumors to rest, I wonder who will emerge next as the top choices to play Sue Storm and Reed Richards. Judging from her response to the rumors, it may be time for fans to change their fantasy fan-casting roster and consider other contenders for the roles. All we know about Fantastic Four is that it's set to conclude Phase 4 of the MCU and they're currently looking for writers to do the characters justice since we haven't really gotten a definitive version of the characters that have truly clicked on the big screen.

What are YOUR thoughts on Emily Blunt putting the Fantastic Four casting rumors to rest?
