It’s been a long road to churn out any film adaptation of Marvel’s Fantastic Four that is deemed successful. Many fans would point to the 2004 Disney animated movie, The Incredibles, as a good example of how to capture the spirit of the comic books. Although Fox’s first attempt at the property in 2005 was able to greenlight a sequel, interest in those movies waned as fans were dissatisfied with the interpretation. Then, the 2015 reboot became a whole new can of worms.

As the MCU secured the film rights to Marvel’s first family, there has been anticipation and rumors abound. Fans’ appetites were whet as John Krasinski made a cameo appearance as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, rumors had been circulating that an unlikely casting choice was made for The Thing — Mila Kunis. According to The Playlist, Kunis was recently seen having lunch with the director of the upcoming Fantastic Four, Matt Shakman, and this sparked rumors of her involvement with the movie. And it somehow snowballed into a rumor that her involvement would be as The Thing.

Kunis not only denies that she’s in the film, she drops a little tease that she does know a casting tidbit. “Apparently, if you go to lunch with somebody that is also in the industry, you then start working together according to the internet. We went out to a deli and had lunch together, and the next day, I’m somehow in Fantastic Four. I am not in Fantastic Four, but I know who is,” Kunis explains. She says she’s not in the film “at all” regardless of which character it’s speculated.

When it comes to rumors, the internet becomes a tangled web of the telephone game. Although they were favorites among fans, both John Krasinski and his wife, Emily Blunt, denied that they would be involved at all in the new reboot. Kunis’ casting joins the wild speculation as well as a strong rumor that Adam Driver may be the frontrunner to play Reed Richards. Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in 2025, but filming begins next year, so there could very well be announcements made soon about the actors portraying the team, especially since Kunis knows of one for sure.
