Assassin's Creed Justin Kurzel Michael Fassbender

20th Century Fox's live action adaptation of the Ubisoft ASSASSIN'S CREED video game franchise is set to reach theatres December 21st, and seven months out the studio has started revving up the hype machine. The first trailer for the film has dropped online to give a glimpse of the large scale action it has in store for viewers.

Directed by Justin Kurzel, ASSASSIN'S CREED stars Michael Fassbender as a guy named

Callum Lynch who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Fassbender's co-stars include Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons, Ariane Labed, and Brendan Gleeson

I've never played any of the ASSASSIN'S CREED video games, but I have seen Charles Band's sci-fi classic TRANCERS, so what appeals to me the most about this trailer is the shared concept of a person experiencing the past through the consciousness of an ancestor. The visuals are quite impressive, although the use of a Kanye West song seems like a misstep.
