Fathom Events brings Friday the 13th back to theatres for 40th anniversary

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

This year marks the 40th anniversary of director Sean S. Cunningham's slasher classic FRIDAY THE 13TH (watch it on Amazon Prime), and Fathom Events is teaming with Paramount Pictures to celebrate the anniversary by bringing the "newly remastered" film back to theatres across the U.S. for two days in October. The film will also be accompanied by a bonus featurette that looks at the work of legendary special effects artist Tom Savini!

Here's how they describe the event:

Head back to Camp Crystal Lake to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of one of the most influential horror films of all time, Paramount Pictures' 1980’s classic “Friday the 13th.” In October, moviegoers can experience a newly remastered version of the original terrifying film that started it all as “Friday the 13th 40th Anniversary” comes to their local cinema for a two-night event.

In this still-scary shocker, the new owner and several young counselors gather to reopen Camp Crystal Lake.  Years ago, a young boy named Jason Voorhees drowned, and a series of vicious murders occurred thereafter. Despite locals’ warnings that the place has a death curse, the new crew continues on to relaunch the camp. One by one they find out how unlucky Friday the 13th can be, as they are stalked by a violent killer.

In addition to watching “Friday the 13th” on the big screen, attendees will view a special bonus, “SECRETS GALORE BEHIND THE GORE – Friday the 13th,” in which revolutionary special-effects and makeup artist Tom Savini (“Friday the 13th,” “Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter,” “Dawn of the Dead,” “Day of the Dead,” “Creepshow,” etc.) details some of the groundbreaking, gory, and great moments of the original “Friday the 13th.”

The FRIDAY THE 13TH screenings will take place on Sunday, October 4th at 7 pm local time, and Wednesday, October 7th at 7 pm and 10 pm local time. Tickets are now available at FathomEvents.com and participating theatre box offices. A full list of locations can be seen on the website.

FRIDAY THE 13TH is one of my all-time favorite films, so I'm happy to see its anniversary being celebrated in this way. Of course, it's also being celebrated with the release of a twelve film, sixteen disc FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise Blu-ray box set, which you can pre-order HERE.
