One flick that has ‘fun’ written all over it is John Favreau’s COWBOYS & ALIENS, the action / sci-fi even film based on the popular graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Last week dropped the awesome news that Olivia Wilde (below) had joined the cast as Daniel Craig’s love interest and co-hort in alien extermination (HERE).

Today we have even more exciting news about the film: the official release date has been announced, and while we’ll be waiting for this badboy for a long time, I have a feeling it’s going to be worth the wait. COWBOYS & ALIENS will be released on July 29, 2011!

Not a bad release date, and one that coincidentally enough lands during the same week as the San Diego Comic-Con. July is primse summer release month, and as it’s rolling in at the end of the month, it should also take in some of August’s late-summer glory as well. Very nice!

July 2011 is going to be busy, as TRANSFORMERS 3, HARRY POTTER 7 (PART 2), and THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA are all scheduled to be released, with only SMURFS 3D sharing the same July 29th date. Since the two films are aimed at two seperate demographics, I doubt they’ll shuffle the films around.

Stick around for more on COWBOYS & ALIENS as we hear it, and mark your calendars for July 29th, 2011, when it’s unleashed upon the world!
