Fear Street Part 1: 1994 trailer scares up an intense summer slasher

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In the immortal words of Benicio Del Toro's Dr. Gonzo, "I think I'm getting the fear."

The hot summer months are upon us, and Netflix has a new trailer for Fear Street Part 1: 1994 that is bound to make you sweat. Based on the classic horror novels written by R.L. Stine, Fear Street is divided into three separate films that come together to tell a unified and horrifying tale.

In Fear Street Part 1: 1994, a group of teenagers discover the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected — and they may be the next targets. Based on R.L. Stine’s best-selling horror series, Fear Street follows Shadyside’s sinister history through a nightmare 300 years in the making.

As you can see from the new trailer, 1994 looks like a classic slasher but with a witchcraft theme looming in the background. Paranoia appears to be key for this chapter, as a group of teens finds themselves being picked off one by one by a masked killer. Personally, I'm a big fan of the snarky blonde dude, who you know is going to get gutted in the worst way possible before the close of the film. His kind is always on the killer's list. Run, blondie, run!

“As a filmmaker making Fear Street, but also just as a movie lover, I was so excited to pay homage to some of the great eras of horror movies. For 1994, Scream stood above all rest — its peak ’90s horror and, I think, one of the most brilliant movies ever made, period. Then for 1978, I got to look at the heyday of slasher films — Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street. For 1666…I found the best inspiration for me lay in the beautiful world made rotten of Terence Malick's The New World," says  Leigh Janiak, director of the Fear Street trilogy.

If you're a Fear Street fan, and how could you not be? You should know that we have a round of interviews with the cast coming up real soon. It's all a part of the rollout for one of this summer's hottest film events. I don't know about you, but I devoured the Fear Street novels when I was a teenager, and simply cannot wait to see what Netflix has cooked up for this awesome-looking trilogy.
