Fear the Walking Dead season 7: AMC orders another season of the spin-off

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Two of the three Walking Dead shows currently on the AMC schedule have their series finales in sight. The Walking Dead will be wrapping up with one more season that will consist of 24 episodes (which might be broken up into three blocks of 8 episodes, airing from fall 2021 through the end of 2022), and The Walking Dead: World Beyond is only meant to last for two seasons. But while those shows are getting ready to wrap up, there hasn't been any talk, so far, of Fear the Walking Dead coming to an end. AMC has announced that the show will be getting a seventh season.

Fear the Walking Dead reached the midseason finale of season 6 at the end of November. The second half of the season is expected to air sometime in early 2021, possibly after six bonus episodes of The Walking Dead play out from the end of February into the beginning of April.

The series stars Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Maggie Grace, Austin Amelio, Garret Dillahunt, Christine Evangelista, Jenna Elfman, Alexa Nisenson, Karen David, Ruben Blades, Mo Collins, Daryl Mitchell, Zoe Colletti, and Colby Minifie. Julian Glover joins the cast in the second half of season 6.

In season 6,

scattered to Virginia's distant settlements, the group struggles to survive apart from one another while trying to hold onto who they are and what they once believed in.

Fear the Walking Dead never got close to being as popular as the original show and has had a lot of ups and downs and changes in style over the course of its seasons, so I'm kind of surprised that it still appears to be in such good shape. The first half of season 6 has been one of its most well-received runs, though, so hopefully it will be able to maintain that level of quality.

AMC is also developing an anthology show called Tales of the Walking Dead, and once The Walking Dead ends there will be a spin-off focusing on the characters Carol and Daryl.
