Featurette delves into the legend of the Krampus

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Although the legend of the creature known as Krampus has been told in some countries for hundreds of years, the Christmas demon is currently enjoying a surge of popularity around the globe. As the legend spreads, many people who haven't heard of Krampus before will soon be watching it in action in the Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures release fittingly titled KRAMPUS

Directed by Michael Dougherty from a screenplay he wrote with Zach Shields and Todd Casey, KRAMPUS tells the following story:

When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.

All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.

The film stars Emjay Anthony, Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, and Allison Tolman.

KRAMPUS will be reaching theatres on December 4th, and for potential audience members who aren't familiar with the eponymous beast, Universal has released a helpful promotional featurette that can be viewed below and gives a bit of information on what this Krampus business is all about.

I only first heard of the Krampus within the last few years myself, and was left wondering why the legend wasn't much more well known. This new flood of Krampus projects and references totally makes sense to me, I think it should have happened long ago. The idea of this character is awesome.
