Adam Sandler is producing a horror movie. And Judd Apatow is getting into the fray as well. So why not Will Ferrell? The actor, along with frequent collaborator and ANCHORMAN director Adam McKay, is producing the upcoming horror/comedy HANSEL AND GRETEL. Tommy Wirkola, director of the Norwegian zombie flick DEAD SNOW, will direct HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS for Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions about the fairy tale duo who grow up into efficient bounty hunters who track and kill witches. McKay said of the deal, “It’s a hybrid sort of old-timey feeling, yet there’s pump-action shotguns. Modern technology but in an old style. We heard it and we were just like, ‘That’s a freakin’ franchise! You could make three of those!'” The project is currently set up at Paramount where Ferrell has a first look production deal. Wirkola is currently adapting his treatment into a full on-script with notes from both McKay and Ferrell. No word yet on when filming might begin.
