Fifth film in the Purge franchise to be directed by Everardo Gout

Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dunes, and Universal are moving forward with a fifth film in the PURGE franchise – a film that franchise creator James DeMonaco has said could be the end of the film series, despite the fact that each new PURGE movie makes more at the global box office than the entry that came before it. THE PURGE – $89.3 million. THE PURGE: ANARCHY – $111.9 million. THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR – $118.6 million. THE FIRST PURGE – $137 million.

THE FIRST PURGE made a bit less than ELECTION YEAR and ANARCHY at the domestic box office, though.

DeMonaco, who has written all of the PURGE films and directed the first three, has written the screenplay for the new film, but won't be directing it. And neither will Gerard McMurray, director of THE FIRST PURGE.

The director of the latest film to cover the Purge event's 12 hours of lawlessness is Everardo Gout, whose previous credits include an episode of the Marvel / Netflix series Luke Cage and nine episodes of Nat Geo's Mars.

The new PURGE is being produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse, DeMonaco and Sébastien K. Lemercier of Man in a Tree, and Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

The film is heading toward a July 10, 2020 theatrical release.

This isn't the only Purge project in the works; the second season of the Purge TV show will begin airing on USA Network this fall.
