Just a few hours ago my homey the Dubbster gave y’all a peek at a new TV spot and music video for David Fincher’s take on THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Well, a piece of news regarding the film broke right after he did so…

Word has come in that Sony has decided to put THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO in theaters a day early, moving the date from Dec. 21st to Dec. 20th.

“This is one of the busiest times of the year for movie-going and we can’t wait to share this outstanding thriller with audiences all over the world,” Sony Pictures chairman Jeff Blake said. “We feel that by opening for night-time shows on December 20th, fans of the book will be given the perfect opportunity to get a jump start on the release of an exceptional film.”

An exceptional film it indeed resembles, but the bigger question I have is this: Will Rooney Mara be as compelling an anti-hero as Noomi Rapace. I’m sure Fincher’s vision and extreme attention to detail will result in an equally good if not superior film, but the whole thing may not work if Mara is unconvincing. Thanks to the move, we’ll find out a day early.
