First clip from Lars von Trier’s Melancholia says “The Earth is Evil”

Lars von Trier is about to expose his soul to the Cannes Film Festival once again with MELANCHOLIA soon. Last time he did that was with ANTICHRIST, and that was a mixed screening at best (walk-outs and shouting matches with von Trier were the order of the day). Should be interesting to see how his latest is greeted; if the film’s first clip is any indication, it’s going to be another dour, pessimistic offering from a director who can often kindly be referred to as a misanthrope.

In the clip, which you an watch below, sisters Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg have obviously already been hit with the news that the Earth is entering its final days. Dunst’s character doesn’t seem very sad to see it go, declaring that “The Earth is evil.” No, MELANCHOLIA doesn’t look like a rip-roaring fun time.

The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, John Hurt, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgård, Alexander Skarsgård, Brady Corbet, Jesper Christensen and Udo Kier. Its danish release is scheduled for MAY 26th.
