First look at John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in The Raven

I’m plenty excited to see that a new movie focusing on Edgar Allan Poe is in production, although I’m still somewhat skeptical about the route its story is going. I understand the inclination to not go the way of a strict biopic, but turning it into something along the lines of SHERLOCK HOLMES meets SE7EN could be a big miscalculation. Then again, seeing Poe’s most famous torture devices and set-pieces in action might very well be utterly mind-blowing. Let’s hope James “Speed Racer” McTeigue, who is directing here, knows what the hell he’s doing… for once.

In any event, here’s a picture of John Cusack just chillin’ on the set of THE RAVEN in Budapest. He looks like he’s either contemplating the meaning of life or the decision to tackle the role – let’s hope it’s the former. Wouldn’t doubt it, as that John is a ruminative fellow and hardly ever makes a wrong move. You saw HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, right..?

THE RAVEN, if you’re in the dark, follows Edgar Allan Poe as he searches for a serial killer who has kidnapped his fiancee and has gone on a murder spree that mimics the author’s work. It also stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Alice Eve and Luke Evans. It’s scheduled to come out sometime next year.
