First official look at Dwayne Johnson in Brett Ratner’s Hercules

While Brett Ratner was filming his adaptation of the "Hercules: The Thracian Wars" graphic novel last year, Dwayne Johnson tweeted a bunch of images of himself as Hercules (although most of them were of the back of his head), but now USA Today has revealed the first official images of the actor from the upcoming movie. Update: Above is a picture from Collider of the official logo for the adaptation.

Take a look:

Johnson also had a conversation with USA Today about HERCULES, and the actor says while he was filming one of the scenes for the film, he felt like he was born to play the Greek legend.

"It's when Hercules breaks through the chains and becomes the demi-god he was born to be. I was actually yelling with all the power I could muster, 'I am Hercules!' I gave it my all and made myself pass out every time we did it. But I honestly felt in that moment that I was born to play this role."

THE LEGEND OF HERCULES starring Kellan Lutz recently bombed in theaters and with critics, and Dwayne Johnson says their objective was to make the best Hercules movie possible with HERCULES.

"The No. 1 goal is to make the definitive version of Hercules. We know we're going to be under a microscope."

Although Lutz's film was a huge flop, I don't think the same thing is going to happen with Dwayne Johnson's version of Hercules. Having Brett Ratner behind the camera doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, however I still think HERCULES will be a fun movie to check out in theaters. It certainly sounds like it's going to be bigger and darker than the last Hercules adventure (war scenes featuring over 1,000 soldiers, Hercules with some mental battle scars), and should do decent business at the box office.

HERCULES also stars Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes and John Hurt, and will open on July 25th, 2014.
