Five Nights at Freddy’s producer Jason Blum says film is still “active”!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In an interview with Inverse, Blumhouse's Jason Blum – talking ostensibly about the studio's upcoming release FREAKY, and how the Covid pandemic is affecting the film industry – also gave a quick update on the long-gestating videogame feature adaptation FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S. Here's the pertinent excerpt:

It’s still active…We haven’t quite figured it out, but we’re getting closer every day. The story is the big challenge. You know, Five Nights at Freddy’s should have been easier because there are books, there’s a lot of lore and storytelling. For a video game, I think it has more storytelling than almost any other. But still, the story goes down so many rabbit holes. It goes down so many different directions. It’s big. Choosing which part to tell [first] — and how to tell it — has been tricky.

And here's the official synopsis for the first few games (though as Blum alludes to, the lore has expanded significantly since then):

The player controls a nighttime security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, who must utilize security cameras and other tools to survive against animatronic characters which become mobile and homicidal after hours. The fourth game in the series takes place in the house of a child who must defend against nightmarish versions of the animatronics.

Meanwhile, series creator Scott Cawthon has been tapped to write the screenplay for the adaptatin, and Christopher Columbus (BICENTINIEL MAN) is is still attached to direct.

So what do you guys think? Fans of the FNaF series? If so, looking forward to the movie? Either way, sound off below!
