Prolific indie filmmaker Henrique Couto, who credits include Boggy Creek: The Series, Babysitter Massacre, and several Christmas-themed horror shorts we’ve shared over the years, has now brought us Found Footage: The Series, which just arrived on the Tubi streaming service. (You can watch the series for free at THIS LINK.) The first season of this found footage horror anthology series consists of eight episodes from six different directors.
The series has the following synopsis: Take an analog journey to Hell. Press play if you dare as you experience tales of horror, murder, and monsters! In the tradition of Creepshow and Paranormal Activity comes a new dimension in terror!
Couto was one of the directors who worked on Found Footage: The Series. Other contributors include Dan Wilder (Babysitter Massacre: Heavy Metal), newcomers Tim Castle and Joe Solmo, Jb Sapienza (My Name Is Jonah), and Eric Widing (Primordial). Episodes were written by Wilder, Castle, Solmo, Widing, Shane Migliavacca, and Larkyn Simony.
As you would expect from a found footage project, the directors also have acting roles in the show. In the cast with them are Rachael Redolfi, Jeff Kirkendall, Wayne W. Johnson, Adam Freeman, Lydia Manson, Joe Kidd, Mary Liz Adams, Jim McDonough, Alonnie Milligan, Katy Lynne Wolfe, and more.
While Couto served as executive producer, the other directors produced the series alongside Redolfi and Andrew N. Shearer. Rob Fields and Fred Obermiller were co-producers, with Rhonda Baughman, Alexander Hurd, and Shane Migliavacca as associate producers.
I’m a bit split on the concept of Found Footage: The Series myself. While I enjoy anthology shows, I’m not usually a fan of the found footage style. So I’m hesitant about a series where every episode is done in the found footage style… but I am a fan of several of the people on the Found Footage: The Series creative team, so I will be giving the show a chance. (And I’m actually such a supporter that I already ordered a copy of the Blu-ray / DVD combo before the show even made its Tubi premiere.)
